Review of Planeta Cacao near Puerto Vallarta, with hands-on chocolate making, cacao history, tastings, transport tips, and value advice.

“This was my favorite activity while visiting Puerto Vallarta for a week. I stayed the Vidanta resort and it was a short, $8 Uber ride to the location. I brought my 12-year old daughter and was somewhat surprised and happy when she said she found it really interesting! Overall this was the experience I wanted to have. Learning about the history of chocolate and the various trees associated. I visited another Chocolate experience in Old Town which was fun, but this was another level. We were able to create chocolate from the seed, to roasting, to grinding and then choosing the amount of sugar and cinnamon to add. Took home…”

Review of San José del Cabo’s four-hour art, beer, and chocolate tour, with pickup, tastings, galleries, pricing, and practical booking advice.

“It was good for first-timers to see the town. The pizza and beer was nice but we weren't expecting a tequila tasting which we had no interest in, and we spent a lot of time waiting for another person on the tour to make a jewelry purchase. Would have been nice to know they were doing a flag ceremony in the plaza which we missed seeing. The guide was more invested in the jewelry purchases than in showing us the town.”

Review of the Mérida to Uxmal, Kabah, and Choco Story tour, with costs, timing, meals, guides, transport, and practical tips.

“Jorge and Annie (sp?) were great guides, it was a friendly group, and the sites were beautiful. Navigating the steep stone stairs was at times hard. If you have mobility issues Kabah may not be possible. The bus was also extremely cramped, especially in the back. If you're tall or larger I recommend getting picked up at the headquarters/first pickup and getting there early to sit towards the front. On one of the bumpier stretches of road I smacked my head.”

And it’s only an hour which makes it an easy thing to do and still have plenty of time left for beach and chill: This is a very touristy experience. So it’s only fun if you allow yourself to go with the schtick of it all. Put on the chef’s hat, laugh at the amazing guides chocolate jokes and in the end you will delight in having made your own chocolate to take home.”

“This is a wonderful tour! Uxmal is the most beautiful ruin site and it was great to be basically the first tour group there while it was cool in the morning. The buffet lunch was excellent and again, we were the first group there. The location of the restaurant was beautiful! Then on to the hacienda which was very interesting. Our guide was very dramatic and his enthusiasm really added to the fun. I loved seeing how the henequene was processed into the fibres and made into ropes. Then we had a unique ride on a mule driven train car to the cenote for a very refreshing hour to cool…”
